Hi everyone! My name is Carlos, and I am a sophomore in Quincy House concentrating (aka majoring) in computer science and economics. Originally, I am from Johns Creek, Georgia—only a 15-to-20-minute drive from Atlanta—so Cambridge’s weather is a novelty to someone who has lived in a hot climate their entire life. I enjoy exploring both Cambridge and Boston—America's college town—as it is the first time I have lived outside of Georgia. Outside of the classroom, I am a part of the Harvard Data Analytics Group, a data-driven consulting group that constructs machine learning models for non-profit organizations and clients and applies algorithms to solve real-world issues. In applying to colleges as a first-generation student, I did not have the assistance or experience of college-educated parents, nor did I have access to college counselors. As such, I sympathize with the worries and intimidating sentiment that applying to college brings, especially for those who are also the first to attend college. Therefore, I hope to support both admitted and prospective students by providing advice not only in the application process but also what to expect from a transformative experience like arriving and studying at Harvard!
