COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE DEAN Letter from the Dean on Laws and Regulations

  • David Pilbeam
  • Dean of Harvard College
September 2007

To All Students of Harvard College,

I write to call to your attention three laws pertaining to your enrollment in Harvard College:

  • The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, a federal law under which all violations of drug and alcohol laws that occur on University property are also violations of University regulations;
  • A Massachusetts statute that prohibits possession of firearms and dangerous weapons;
  • A Massachusetts statute that prohibits the practice of hazing.

Information about these laws can be found at www.college.harvard.edu/deans_office/drug_tomes.html.

Please note that College penalties for violations may be in addition to legal sanctions. This website contains further information about College policy concerning drugs and alcohol, and the Handbook for Students summarizes all three areas of regulation.
